Massachusetts Senate Passes Age 21 Bill
April 29, 2016

Yesterday, the Massachusetts Senate voted 32 to 2 to pass Senate Bill 2234 which would raise the legal age to purchase tobacco from 18 years old to 21 years old. The sales prohibition under the bill would not apply to those persons who turned 18 years old before January 1, 2017. The bill also includes a ban on vaping in places where smoking is otherwise prohibited and would ban the sale of tobacco in pharmacies and other health care facilities. The Massachusetts House has not yet taken action on a bill to raise the legal age to purchase tobacco products.
